Interests

Conservation

Conservation of the environment has been one of my strongest interests ever since, at a young age, I discovered that species could become extinct. I express my love of the environment in my ongoing financial support of environmental organisations, through volunteer work and through responsible bushwalking.

Film

I foster my interest in film by attending film festivals, going to the movies and participating in film projects. Enjoying well-made films helps me acquire new visual techniques and improve my storytelling ability.

Photography

Still learning, still experimenting - much of my photography documents the minutae of everyday life against a backdrop of something spectacular, or something spectacularly ordinary. Playing with photography gives me a more acute awareness of my environment and how to represent it.

Tea culture

I am fascinated by the continuing strength and diversity of tea cultures around the world and take time to learn about tea rituals at every opportunity. As a result, I am particular about my tea - how it is presented, its taste and the story behind it.

Travel

I satisfy much of my natural curiosity through travel and have visited a broad range of countries around the world. I travel independently most often, but have also had excellent experiences travelling in a group and travelling with tour companies. I have also completed volunteer work abroad.

Writing culture

I enjoy immersing myself in the act and culture of writing. I participate in a monthly writing group session with friends, attend and volunteer time at writers' festivals and find pleasure in books and creative writing. I like to encourage the practice of writing in others, which often becomes writing projects.
